How to get started
To help you choose the perfect carpet we’ve put together a list of things to consider.
Step 1. Colour
Like paint, the colour of a carpet can change under different lighting, so it’s important to view your sample under various conditions e.g. daylight and artificial light before making your final decision.
Step 2. Price and quality
Carpet is one of the most affordable flooring options and is usually quoted in linear metres (1m long x 3.66m wide (the width of a roll). To convert to square metres, divide by 3.66.
Step 3. Durability and gradings
The best way to measure durability is to look for an independent grading like the ACCS Residential Extra Heavy Duty Plus Stairs, 6 Star Grade label that you’ll find on the back of the carpet.
Step 4. Wool vs nylon
Both wool and nylon carpets are hard-wearing, luxurious underfoot and feature stain resistance properties. The biggest advantage of a nylon carpet is its ability to hold colour in areas exposed to long periods of direct sunlight. While wool is hypoallergenic, fire-resistant and helps to naturally regulate moisture, creating a warm, dry and healthy home.
Step 5. Choosing the right style
Cut pile carpets are incredibly luxurious and plush under-foot. TIP: If you have a cat who likes to claw the carpet, a cut pile carpet is your best option because they can tear the loop of a loop pile.
Loop pile carpets offer an array of stylish textures and designs, ranging from a minimalist appearance through to bold, unique patterns.
Cut & loop piles
Cut and loop pile carpets can create a distinctive pattern across your floor that adds another dimension to the colour you choose.
Step 6. Lifestyle needs
Do you have children? Pets? Will the carpet be exposed to full sun for extended periods? Fortunately, there’s a carpet option for every home. Visit us in-store and we can help you find the perfect match.
Step 7. Take home a sample
Visit us in-store and take home a few samples. We believe that’s the only way you can really know what works with your furniture, paint colours etc.
